Decoding the Mysteries of Interpersonal Relationships

Presenter: Hope I. Hills, Ph.D., Board Certified Coach

“You cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building nests in your hair.”
— Chinese Proverb

Don’t you wish that you had a magic wand to wave over every relationship in your life? Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to overcome all your business, personal and family difficulties whether they are within your own culture or across multiple cultures? Haven’t you always wished that, as a leader, you could confidently work with any employee no matter how difficult they are and engage all your employees to experience maximum health and success? Finally, can you imagine having the tools to create a great team around you and utilize a common set of agreements to ensure the smooth and efficient function of the entire human component – or “human system” – in your organization?

This talk will help you begin to unlock the answers to these relationship mysteries through exploring the basics of the Interpersonal Flexibility Circle©. By the end of this short introductory talk, you will recognize how you could possibly get into trouble with colleagues, subordinates and bosses as well as friends and family.  You may be surprised how easy it is to avoid this situation with her method.

Dr. Hills is a leadership coach, organizational consultant and counseling psychologist. Since 1991, she has consulted with a wide variety of leaders and teams from Fortune 50 companies to small non-profit organizations. By using effective approaches to decode an understanding of people, organizations and themselves, she has helped them develop into high functioning, highly successful and healthy leaders, teams and organizations.

At the core of her work is the Interpersonal Flexibility Circle© that she developed based on 50+ years of research into Interpersonal Theory by many psychologists.   Since her years as a professor at the University of Missouri, where she founded the International Student’s Organization, she has used the Interpersonal Flexibility Circle© to help people successfully work with each other, across many cultures. She has used this method with multicultural teams in China, Germany, Korea, and the US. One of our NCCBA members, Tong Li, translated it into Chinese for her before she went to China for a week of training and working with a team of Chinese and American workers in a plant there. After the training, they understood each other better and therefore communicated much more effectively. As a result, they were able to increase their productivity.

And best of all, this short talk invites you to explore those relationship mysteries that confuse and frustrate you. Think of one or two experiences that have built nests in your hair and be ready to gain new insights into how to lead your people, your family, and most importantly, your SELF!
